1. EDUCATION: NYU Strike: Speak up for the right to unionize!
ISSUE: At issue is the right of campus workers to organize a labor union. Graduate workers at New York University (NYU) are entering their second month on strike. NYU management refuses to recognize, much less negotiate with, the union - the Graduate Student Organizing Committee (GSOC).
ACTIONS: Write to NYU President John Sexton at john.sexton at nyu.edu and tell him you support the GSOC, and that you expect him to enter negotiations with the union. Make sure you cc: a copy to Martin Lipton, the chair of NYU's Board of Trustees,
at MLipton at wlrk.com and to the provost David McLaughlin at david.mclaughlin at nyu.edu - please also cc: education at libertytreefdr.org so we can get them in the hands of the strikers.

2. EDUCATION: Administrators move to expel campus organizers
ISSUE: Administrators at the UW-Madison and at Hampton University are pursuing disciplinary charges against students at these two historically active campuses. At UW-Madison, the targets are members of Stop the War!; at Hampton, the targetted students were participants in a campus anti-war walkout.
ACTIONS: Write to administrators at both campuses and demand that they end their intimidation of campus organizers. See the two websites provided below for contact information.

3. GENERAL: World Social Forum, Midwest Social Forum, U.S. Social Forum
ISSUE: The rulers meets in Davos, Switzerland, for their "World Economic Forum;" the people meet, by the hundreds of thousands, all over the world. Most famous are the "World Social Forum" gatherings in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and Mumbai, India.
ACTIONS: Now, with the first North American forums in Boston and Ontario last year, the Social Forums are coming closer to a city near you. Participate! More information is below:

III. DEMOCRATIZING EDUCATION CONVENTION A SUCCESS ~ Over the weekend of October 20-13, 2005, 130 students, faculty, staff, and community members from 26 campuses in 13 states and 2 provinces met at the Democratizing Education Convention in Madison, Wisconsin. Organizers hoped the convention would help campus organizers to, "better coordinate our energy and organizing efforts to fight for an accessible, diverse and fair public higher education system."
