CLIMATE AND CLEAN ENERGY DIRECTOR

Global warming is a critical issue in New Orleans post-Katrina and one
the Alliance for Affordable Energy has been working on for many years.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to lead our Global
Warming and Clean Energy Programs. This job opening is a high impact
opportunity, as energy policy and climate protection laws are currently
hot topics of discussion.
The Climate and Clean Energy Program covers renewable energy, energy
efficiency and global warming and includes:
* Progressive energy policy
* Education on global warming and clean energy
* Demonstration projects
Current projects include:
* Coordinating the Louisiana Climate Action Network (LA CAN) -
Grassroots organizing and outreach to community leaders and
elected officials on global warming dangers and solutions
* Promoting clean energy policies - Renewable Portfolio
Standard, Green Pricing, Public Benefits Fund/Energy Efficiency
Program, incentives for renewable energy and coordinating a
coalition "Say YES to Clean Energy and NO to Coal and Nuclear"
campaign
* Clean Energy Home Tour - securing donations and conducting
educational tours
* Biodiesel - coordinating free community workshops and pilot
project with New Orleans school and city buses
Position responsibilities:
Projects - develop/manage work plans, timelines for climate and clean
energy programs
Network and coordinate with organizations and community leaders to lead
grassroots efforts for sustainable energy policies and climate
protection at city, state and national levels
Outreach and education - Generate media coverage and distribute press
releases; Educate and maintain relationships with elected officials on
responsible energy policy; Research and write articles on global
warming, renewable energy and energy efficiency issues, policies and
programs for Alliance newsletter, website and other publications;
Mobilize/supervise volunteers.
Qualifications: The Climate and Clean Energy Director position requires
at least 1 year of work experience in the energy/global warming arena,
preferably in a non-profit environment. A Masters degree or Bachelors
with equivalent work experience in the energy/advocacy field are
desired. Knowledge of energy policy matters and environmental issues,
local, state and national legislative process, and principles/practices
of effective public relations are required. Skill in developing short-
and long-range plans, establishing priorities and organizing work,
management, grassroots organizing, group leadership, volunteer
cultivation/coordination and working as a team. Excellent oral and
written communication and use of computers and commonly used office
software is also required. Personal transportation and mobile phone
(for press calls) required.
Salary $30K+, DOE, plus health insurance.
